3 ton AC system in the Houston, TX. area. Tech stated coil has leak, requires replacement. What should this cost?

Generally, the consensus seems to be about $1000-2000 except in the highest cost areas, with the lower end being small systems or ones where the coil is being replaced for free by the manufacturer under warranty (check your warranty info - commonly around 5 or 10 years, though sometimes only 1 or 2 years with cheapo brands, and a very few, especially on older units lifetime to the original buyer and maybe one transfer to the follow-on owner) - so you might save a good few hundreds that way. Higher end for larger units like yours and/or ones where the coil (which commonly has different warranty than the compressor and fan and TXV and such) is out of warranty.
