Don't start out with bonsai trees unless you're really experienced... they need very good care

I do have experience, but only with having them inside my house.

My "experience" is reading a mystery short story where the man had them outside, in Florida, but under the awning by his pool. He made a big point of this and had taught himself about bonsai over decades of study. I don't think putting one out in the weather would work, but you could acclimate it to the outdoors slowly and then try moving it farther from protection.
