Average cost for defrost system replacement on ge side by side fridge

Had a guy outto replace the defrost system on my side by side ge fridge. I feel the price was kind of high was hoping so.eone could give me an estimate on what this cost would generally be

Depends on what the problem was - simplest case would be a connection gone bad or gotten loose which cost $100-105.

Heating element failure I would guess would run about $200-250 (the element itself is $17-65 depending on exact model).


If master control board (which controls the timing of defrosting) was shot that is about $120-250 depending on model for the board itself - plus probably $100-150 labor.


Bear in mind these are rough ballparks - what model you have obviously makes a difference in cost, as does whether you live in a really low labor cost or very high cost area. And maybe not fair, but if you live in a real high-end area, your cost may be 25-100% more just because that is what the market will bear. When I used to work in the Beverly Hills/Hollywood/San Vicente area of LA I saw/heard some contractors marking their bids/invoices up 100% just because the clients could afford it.
