My philosophy on this - you got 30 years on a Carrier, why change ? Your experience is what I have seen a lot - Carriers just keep going and going and going ... oops, now I'm going to have some pink bunny coming and stomping on me for trademark infringement.

But that is my preferred brand unless noise is a major concern, in which case with Carrier you generally need to get the noise reduction package (which in very hot climates is not a good idea because it makes it run hotter) or build a sound absorbing barrier between the unit and the house. Not that carriers are grossly loud, just they seem to be noisier than some other brands.

American Standard is not bad though - at comparable price I would definitely go with teh Carrier, but commonly AS runs as much as 20-30% cheaper for the unit (so maybe 10-15% cheaper installed cost) so would have to be your call on whether that savings is worth risking possibly only 1/2-2/3 the operating life for the unit, because while AS is a solid and reputable brands, I personally would not expect over about 15 or possibly 20 years out of one, whereas for Carrier I expect 20+ years.
