Clogged pipes

Three times in the last two years, I have had to rent a large motorized plumbers snake to clean out the sewer pipe from the house to the road, after discovering a wet mess in my basement. Can certain types of toilet paper be more likely to clog my pipes? What preventative action should I take? Is there any possibility that the pipe may have sagged and created a low spot?
