Question DetailsAsked on 5/19/2015

Do oak trees have lumber value. I have an 80-90' oak(about 20'diameter at base) tree separates into 3 lg.trunck

The large diameter base extends approx. 5 feet high then splits into three large trunks (approx. 8-10' diameter each). just trying to minimize the cost to remove the tree if the Oak tree has lumber value.

Certainly that size tree has value for lumber - though I am guessing you must mean circumference rather than diameter, because otherwise that would be the largest single trunk tree ever recorded.

A few Tree Service companies in some areas do removal for free (though not grinding the stump, probsably), and sell the wood to small sawmills. Otherwise, you are going to have to either find a Firewood dealer who will do it, or google for local hardwood sawmills to find one. For a single tree not many commercial sawmills would be interested unless you delivered it to them, but a small porta-mill type might be.

Bear in mind, especially if where it could damge buildings or utilities or such when it is felled, that if they are not properly insured and carry worker's compensation insurance for their workers and so forth you are risking a lot - many times safer to just have a tree service cut and stack or cut and dispose of a tree like this and avoid the liability issues.
