Does Kinetico water filter and soften?

We are looking for good drinking water and a system which will filter the minerals and chemicals to reduce water spotting, both inside and out.

They make both filtration units and resin-based water softeners - here is their website with tabs for each, and also for some specialty treatment options for unusual water contaminants -

Here is a previous similar question with answers which address the high cost of parts and repairs and filters (available only from Kinetico dealers), and some other issues.

Note you need filtration (which can be cartridge type or a sandbed unit in a water softener) if you have incoming sand, algae, etc - solids suspended, not dissolved, in the water. For hard water (dissolved minerals) which causes spotting, you want water softening - where the dissolved minerals which most commonly cause that are removed by the water softener - though this does add salt to the water, which can be an issue to people on a low-salt diet, so in that case you commonly end up with a Reverse Osmosis unit at the kitchen sink to provice low-salt water there.

My recommendation - if od not have particles showing up in the incoming water if you fill and settle out water in a glass gallon jug, then you probably do not need pre-filtration (though I recommned it for any well system in sedimentary rock or overburden) - just water softening.

My personal recommendation - Kinetico is not worth the much higher price for installation, parts, repair, filters - for water softening normal Kenmore or Culligan or such units work fine. If you need filtration unit, GE, Whirlpool, Pelican, etc make perfectly good units at much lower cost.
