Question DetailsAsked on 1/19/2014

Had exterior of house painted…painters considered 2 coats a vertical swipe, then a horizontal swipe…is this common

contract was for 2 coats of paint…upon completion of first coat, they were putting everything away…inquired about 2nd coat, and they replied it had already been done, that they had sprayed vertically, then immediately sprayed horizontally, and that was considered 2nd coat…..is this the new industry standard?

As I am sure you have suspected, B.S. - they are trying to scam you. A second coat is just that - a totally separate coat, applied after the first has cured (typically 12 hours drying minimum for latex, typically 1-3 days for oil based, depending on manufacturer and actual field conditions.

Let me guess - you chose this company based on price rather than reputation ?

I hope you did not pay them yet.
