Question DetailsAsked on 6/17/2011

How much should I expect to pay for 10x10 kitchen remodel?

I have vinyl floors, the cheapest laminate countertops and cheapest cabinets the builder could get when the house was built 15 years ago. I was thinking about putting in a bamboo floor but love the look of tile floors. We don't want to spend a lot of $$. The space is small, 10x10, which helps with cost. We were initially only going to do the floors but then I thought how much worse it would make the counters look if just the floors were redone, then I figured if I was going to do the floors and counters I ought to do the cabinets. Anyway, getting pointers from people who have gone through a remodel seems more helpful than using the on-line calculators. Next step is finding materials and contractors. The whole thing seems really daunting...

I was reading the wall liner posting, not because I need to cover a wall but I went a little off topic in my search for info on redoing our kitchen. I saw the pics of your kitchen and think they look fabulous. I was wondering if I could pick your brain a bit. I have vinyl floors, the cheapest laminate countertops and cheapest cabinets the builder could get when the house was built 15 years ago. We're not the original owners and after 15 years of use the kitchen made with low end materials now looks cheap and dated (as opposed to just cheap ;) I was thinking about putting in a bamboo floor but love the look of your tile floor (it looks like tile anyway) and your counters and cabinets. We don't want to spend a lot of $$ so that is what makes this tough. The space is small, which helps wrt cost and the only new appliance we need to buy is a range. We have a slide out range so installing a similar will cost a little more than the stand alone kind but installing a free standing one will require cutting out part of the wall so not sure which is more cost effective. I was just wondering if you could tell me what kind of countertops you have (material) and if you remodeled your kitchen (which is larger than mine - mine is about 10x10 but oddly shaped, kind of triangular shaped) what kind of budget might I expect to pay for a similar remodel. We were initially only going to do the floors but then I thought how much worse it would make the counters look if just the floors were redone, then I figured if I was going to do the floors and counters I ought to do the cabinets. At which point the entire project became stalled because it suddenly seemed like a very expensive job. Anyway, getting pointers from people who have gone through a remodel seems more helpful than using the on-line calculators. Next step is finding materials and contractors. The whole thing seems really daunting...

thx for any info you can offer. Linda
