Question DetailsAsked on 7/31/2013

How do I find an Angie's List provider to transport a riding mower for me, short distance, from a garage sale to my house?

Searching "transportation" brings up cross-country classic car transporters, way too expensive and not what I'm after. Searching "hauling" brings up companies that haul away trash and scrap metal, again not what I'm looking for. How do I search for someone who can simply transport 1 item less than 10 miles for less than $100? They would have to have the right kind of vehicle (trailer and/or pickup with ramp(s), not a high deck moving van with single ramp). They would have to be available on relatively short notice, since garage sale items are first come first serve. I'd prefer it be someone who does this regularly or for a living, not someone trying to make a quick buck. I might need their services again in the future if the mower needs repairs that I can't perform at home.

Why not just call a tow truck with a tilt-bed - can haul it up on the tilt deck and off to your house for probably $75-100 or less for a 10 mile trip, at least in the summer when they are not busy with cold start failures and icy road wrecks. Then you don't have to worry about it being done by an amateur.

Another possibility, though availability on short notice is questionable, would be a lawn care company or landscape company with a low deck trailer with ramps.

Some trash cleanup and hauling one-man outfits might also be able to do this for $50-75.

Actually, the companies that haul away trach and scrap metal might be just right too - many of them use low-deck trailers that have ramps.
