Question DetailsAsked on 12/12/2011

How can I find a reliable painter to paint the inside of my home without charging an arm and a leg.

I am disabled and have very little cash coming in. My home needs inside painting done and I need a good painter that can do the job without charging a lot.

There's a common saying in various service oriented businesses: There's Customer Service, Price, and Quality. You can have 2 of the three but not all three.

Quality work from a person who isn't going to take advantage of you or scope out your house in the process is going to cost more than a cheap fly-by-night company. You should look here on Angie's List as well as check out any potential contractors with the BBB. Painters are one of the easier trades to find. Look in your neighborhood for painters working at neighbors homes. Ask them about the quality and professionalism of the contractor. If a contractor is doing multiple homes in your area and all have good things to say about him it's a good start.

Find some custom building jobs in your area. Their painters are probably getting a little slow this time of the year so you may be able to get them in you home between their other contracts. I find sub-contractors with tract home builder experience to be "ruined," having lost their eyes for detail as speed is emphasized over quality with those guys.

As a General Contractor I learned a long time ago that anyone can paint but for a good quality job a skilled painter can't be beat. You can hire a handyman to do the work cheaper but don't expect the same quality.
