Question DetailsAsked on 7/10/2017

How do I know if a permit was issued prior to building a garage on 111 Chantilly St. Victoria, TX?

I live in a line of town-houses with shared walls between each - no physical separation. There is a permanent pond between my house and my neighbor's. This is caused by a garage built on what was a parking stall. I want to know if this was taking in consideration before building this structure.

Go to your local building department (City if within city limits, otherwise county) and ask to see the building permit file on that property - would help to first look up the legal description of the property (Plat, block and lot number) if easy to do online - commonly that and city property number are online at tax assessor's office website, listed by address.

You should be able to review all permits for that property (though some agencies only keep them for 3-5 years).

The building permit file will tell if a building permit was obtained, but unless the full plans are filed there (usually retained only till or for a very short time after the final permit signoff) will likely not show anything about drainage planning.
