Question DetailsAsked on 6/1/2016

How much does it cost to install vents in hot air ducts?

We have forced hot air. The ducts run from the furnace through the den and into another room. In the room the ducts are throughout but there are no vents so there is no heat. What would it cost to vent these ducts and provide heat in this separate room?

A Heating and A/C contractor (your Search the List category) would have to determine if you can just add new registers without also adding return vents or undercutting the door to get the air back to the air handler/furnace - generally will not work well without added return airflow provisions too. Also, putting in more registers in that room will be stealing airflow from the other registers in the house, so done improperly you might end up creating a situation with rooms with inadequate heat/cooling further down the ducting. Sometimes this can be compensated for by adjusting dampers or registers, sometimes not so well.

Just for putting in new registers, assuming the ducting is readily accessible, typically around $300-400 for one or two registers rough ballpark, not including any drywall repair if he has to cut into a finished ceiling to access the ducting.
