How much should it cost to move a gas line?

I'm remodeling my kitchen and the gas line to the range needs to be moved about one foot closer to the source. The kitchen is currently empty and I've agreed to allow a contractor to cut into the floor as much as he needs.

I am assuming you want to move this because it is going to interfere with a wall or cabinet or such - otherwise if it just does not reach to the appliance there are varying length flex connecting tubing to reach from the gas shutoff valve to the appliance.

If relocating because it will interfere, assuming readily cut flooring or wall behind the range (whichever the pipe comes out of) minimum service call charge of about $75-150 will probably handle it for labor (assuming you or remodeling contractor is going to repair the flooring), and maybe $0-75 materials depending on what he needs to do to make it fit and whether your existing shutoff valve and flex tubing are reusable or need to be replaced due to age or non-compliance with current code.

In situations where access is nasty or requires cutting through stone or tile or similar hard to cut floor, might run another $50-150 in labor in most cases.

Plumbing is your normal Search the List category for this type of work. Be sure to tell him what kind of material he will be cutting through so he brings appropriate tools.
