Question DetailsAsked on 8/25/2016

How much to install a check valve in a kitchen and will it work? I live in an apartment building built in 1960.

The building was built in 1960. This occurs when no one is home and I have not run the dishwasher. Last time it happen while on vacation for a week and returned to a flooded kitchen. Earlier this week when I returned from work (6pm) the kitchen sink was full of black water. I poured two containers of Drano into the sink. As of 10pm that night the water did not go down. The next morning the water had drained. The Super snaked the kitchen pipe but that evening water had back up into the dishwasher and flooded the kitchen. BUT I had not used the dishwasher for 5 days and there was no water in the dishwasher. I do not cook with oil nor do I pour grease down the sink. I use dish soap and Ajax to clean the sink. I have a stopper that catches food which I then put into the garbage. If there is something I am doing wrong please advise. I have spent $1,000 this year on plumbing and nothing works. I live on the 3rd floor of a 5 story building. Thank you in advance for your help.
