I have a 4 1/2 ft. deep 24" round swimming pool and am considering having it filled in . I don't know how to figure

Below are a couple of previous similar questions with answers (assuming you meant 4-1/2'' depp by 24' diameter - not 24". You are talking roughly 75 cubic yards of fill if 24' diameter. See previous questions with answers in the Home > Pools and Hot Tubs link under Browse Projects, at lowerleft, for warnings about perforating or not perforating the pool lining if it is not taken out, or about providing drainage or confining clay layers as applicable depending on water table level, and types of fill and the need to compact during placement to avoid forming a swamp or a sinkhole which will be a nuisance for many years to come - I have seen pools filled with random fill and no compaction, or the wrong type fill, still settling and sometimes sinkholing decades after they were filled in.
