Question DetailsAsked on 7/31/2016

I have a 6' unfinished basement what is the cost to dig out 2' making it an 8' ceiling including new slab and foote

The space is @720 sq ft I initially wanted to just do half the basement to fit out a small studio and leave the other half as is for storage.

Depends a lot on your specific house foundation and its current condition, and on whether watear and especially sewer lines (which have to maintain certain grades) have to be or can easily be moved, and of course on soil conditions if very hard digging or bedorck, or if soil is very wet or soft so stability is a major concern.

One other solution being used more often these days, depending on surface grades and whether you dislike stairs to the front door and on whether your garage is attached/detached or tuck-iunder (which makes it more difficult) is jacking the house up and building stub-walls on top of the existing foundation (assuming it is in good condition) then setting the house back on top of that and reconnecting utilities - can be cheaper at times than digging out and deepening the foundation under the house.

Generally, having an Architect/Engineer firm look at it and assess the issues and alternatives first is worth the cost for that.
