Depends on what the condition of the surface is, if one or two coats needed (especially if covering up darker color), type of paint (and whether oil based / stain or cheaper latex), whether doing ceilings or not, wall height, if doing trim and doors in same color and paint (not generally a good idea to use same paint unless really cheap doors and trim), amount of furniture moving needed, if one or multi-color, etc, etc.

Generally - very roughly, cheap moveout apartment painting can run $0.10-0.50/SF of surface being painted with pretty minimal surface prep and masking (generally figuring spraying - rolling/brushing generally runs around $1/SF or more). Houses tend to run more $0.50-1.50/SF of painted surface area and $1-2/LF on trim, but also tend to have multiple colors, trim and doors done differently, doing inside closets, sometimes painting interior of window frames also, normally not gang-sprayed inside, etc.

Those are per square foot of painted area - some contractors will bid based on living area square footage, either measuring the actual ceilings and walls or just using a flat 2-3X (depending on if open floorplan or "hall-and-box" room plans multiplier on the floor square footage (3-4X if doing ceilings too), so of course if based on floor area then quotes in the $1-7/SF (of floor area) range are common.

And of course if painting floors cost needs to go up to compensate for that too, though except for garage floor and deck paint on concrete slabs that is usually a specialty floor refinishing or concrete surface contractor job.

You can find a pretty fair number of previous questions with answers and ballpark costs in the Home > Painting link in Browse Projects, at lower left.

Painting - Interior is of course your Search the List category to find well-rated and reviewed contractors to bid your job.
