Lot of similar questions with answers to the "free wood if you cut the trees down" issue can be found in the Lawn and Garden > Tree Service link in Browse Projects, at lower left.

And bear in mind if you sell the wood (rather than pay a contractor to remove it) generally that is considered a commercial operation, so your homeowner's insurance will generally provide you with zero protection in that case.

Pay attention to the comments on liabilit/insurance issues with allowing private individuals or Firewood vendors to come cut them, and also on the zoning/regulation side - both with respect to local regulations regarding percentage of trees that can be cut on a lot, and also with regard to commercial timbering permits if someone pays YOU for the wood.

Also, the cleanup after the cutting can be critical, or you mauy end up with a field of stumps and slash (the branch piles) left after they leave.

And that is where Bonding comes in - if the contract specifies the extent of cleanup and stump/root removal to be done by them and they don't do it, they will already have the wood in hand by then so you have no hold on them to get it done other than their bonding.
