That is a normal 6 year warranty 50 gallon electric heater - so "normal" installed cost would be around $1000-1500 in most areas. (Retail or list cost around $400-500, more like $600-750 if special ordered with freight charges added). So I would say our cost is on the high but not total ripoff side.

Now - things that can bump the installed cost up to the range you are talking about - if your existing system does not have currently required safety measure including the newer type of vinyl clad stainless steel flex gas line from shutoff valve to heater and backflow preventer and expansion tank on incoming cold line - or if your wiring was not adequate for that heater - or new wiring had to be put in because you were converting from gas to electric. Any of those three situations could have bumped the "normal" charge up to $1700.
