Is it reasonable for a contractor to demand 75% of the contract price be paid before work starts?

Contract is for a bathroom remodel. Proposed contract price is $16,500.

NOT in my book, unless a vast percentage of the job was in VERY high priced imports that have to be paid for in advance - in which case I would reqauire they be paid by and shipped to myself. Obviously not the case for this fairly low-end job.
