Is it typical for general pest control contract to not include termites

New home owner in South Carolina. Know the area is susceptible to termites. I purchased an annual pest control service. Now the company is sending me a separate invoice to cover an annual termite contract. I had made an assumption that termites would be included with "pest control" coverage. Is this not the case?

I would read the pest control contract real clearly - but sounds to me like you got scammed - and if it says it provides "pest control" and does not specifically spell out that termites are excluded, termites are pests in general parlance so I would be filing a complaint with the local/state consumer fraud agency. Unless this is a RENEWAL contract - to take effect after your current plan expires maybe ?

One other possibility I did not consider in original response - if the original contract was for lawn/yard treatment for surface insects such as chiggers, ticks, mosquitos, etc , then that would NOT normally include termites, which generally attack underground.
