Kitchen cabinet refinishing

What is the best way to update/refinish kitchen cabinets that are solid wood and in decent condition? They were originally stained off white.  Is painting the only choice, and if so, what is the best paint or finish?

I'd Love to have real solid wood over my broken ones that are faux wood, old and breaking. I'd imagine. You could first strip them all completely. Make sure they're cleaned. Then do a good primer. For be it a new stain or a new standard good paint. There is good paint out there for just this project. I do believe refinishing and re-priming is the best way to start. A good job will last for as long as you own your home! Best of Luck to you! I'm envious you have solid wood to start with! Hope it turns out well for you! I bet after this Kitchen cupboard make over it will be the heart of your home and look amazing!
