Kitchen cabinets

On the East Boston project on 'This Old House' Norm or Steve said the white beadboard cabinets were not wood. What were they? He said something better / longer wearing than wood. Was it Thermafoil? Anyone know anything about Thermafoil?

Thermafoil is just a type of finishing instead of painting. Some beadboard may be composite wood or even plastic.
