My AC company is charging 65 $ per pound for 407c refrigerant, is this too much

I live in Zachary la, and needed a new clmpressor. The are changing it from r22 to 407c

I presume you have confirmed the coils and compressor are rated for use with that gas - many are not.


The raw gas runs about $8-15/lb from a quick check I made of several sources - so if this is for the gas itself I would say you are getting seriously gouged.


However, if this is an average per pound and includes the flushing of the system (mandatory because the lubricants in the two gases are not compatible) and the labor in extracting the old gas and recharging with the new, then adjusting the system operation to the optimum condition, for a normal say about 10-15# charge then that $650-1000 total job cost (not including the new compressor) would probably be in the range.
