If the pen was ball point it could be easy for a good professional carpet cleaner to remove. If the pen was felt tip or any other variation it could be more difficult. Either way a professional should be called.

When calling ask what process they use to remove pen ink. A solvent and emulsifier combo is required. I would warn against using those terms verbally because it could be insulting to a professional. We are a sensitive bunch. But if they mention things like "solvent", "emulsifier" or "foam(y)" you are barking up the right tree.

Worst case scenario, if the stain will not respond to removal efforts a bonded insert, or patch, will look much better than a black ink spot on the carpet. Most reputable carpet cleaners know how to do a bonded insert. A carpet installer may also be called upon but they are usually pricey.

I know it's tempting to try to fix this yourself but a small ink spot can easily expand to a very large ink spot if proper measures are not followed. I've been a professional carpet cleaner for a long time and am confident I know what needs to be done to remedy your situation.
