You would have to call around to Heating and A/C contractors to get pricing - might run from $30-40/lb at the low end to $100 plus depending on vendor - be sure to ask about TOTAL price for the Freon plus andy service charges, as some embed most or all the labor cost into the gas price, others have a separate labor / hookup/line evacuation charge and charge separately for the gas.

But - for 6 pounds - likely to be $300-500 even if you don't find a ripoff artist who is charging $100-200/lb for the gas.

I would question why you did not have the tech doing the repair fill the system too - he likely already had it prepped to fill since he presumably tested the repair (hopefully), so would probably have been cheaper to have him do it while there - plus that way you would have known the repair was actually done and not still leaking.

Lots of previous questions and responses on Freon (R-22) gas cost and refill cost and such in the Home > HVAC link in Browse Projects, at lower left.
