Here are a couple of prior responses to similar questions FYI - obviously for higher-end furnishings or things that could really gouge the walls or ceilings due to size, or going up and down stairs, a professional moving crew would be your smartest move.

Normally, except for highboys and such, if in same room so no going through doorways issues, on carpet you can put teflon or plastic disc moving pads under the feet of the item and slide it (after emptying out as much weight as feasible if over 150-200 pounds or so) - or on hard flooring use a folded up rag or towel under each foot to slide it on. Here are what the moving pads look like - at Amazon, home improvement stores, furniture stores, box stores -

On hard surfaces, large bulky items you can sometimes lift one end (2 person job for this) and shove a strong blanket in under bunching it in the middle, this tilt up other sie and pull the blanket through - then move it by two people pulling on blanket and pushing, using the blanket as both a glider and a pull strap. Do NOT use your throw rug or area rug for this - can distort and stretch it, especially if it has a noticeable pattern or design on it.
