Paying contractor in advance

A contractor is asking for prepayment of materials. Is that appropriate?

It is ok, but be careful. If your asking this question you already have conerns. Is this payment in accordence with your contract ? Have you checked the licence, B.B.B. , before hiring them? Start of work payments are usual followed by a half way payment,and delivery of materials. hold on to a large amount for the completion payment. My suggestion is the smaller the completion payment there is the bigger the chance of you getting burnt will be.

Paying on materials delivered is ok, but be careful. If your asking this question you already have conerns. Is this payment in accordence with your contract ? Have you checked the licence, B.B.B. , Angies list ratings and reviews, before hiring them? Start of work payments are usual followed by a half way payment, and delivery of materials. Please hold on to a large amount for your completion payment. My oppinion is the smaller the completion payment there is the, bigger the chance of you getting burnt will be.
