Repairing scratches in tub

Just last night, I discovered a couple deep scratches in my fiberglass(?) whirlpool tub, prob. from where my husband sits on the edge of it in his uniform putting his boots on. Is there any way to repair these scratches?

Kendra, We called an A-rated tub refinishing company, and they said that it depends on how deep the scratches are. Those tubs are fiberglass underneath and then have a gel coat on top. If it hasn’t gone all the way through the gel coat, the...n yes, it can be repaired. It is a several step process using sanding and compound polishing. If it went all the way through the gel coat into the fiberglass, then that requires the coating to be reapplied. If your tub has swirl effects, that part may be ruined because those can’t be matched. Experience is the best way to judge whether the scratch went into the fiberglass or not, so calling a professional is your best bet. Good luck!
