SHOULD ROOFERS CHECK FOR LEAKS IF SUSPECTED ? BEFORE HE INSTALLS A NEW ROOF.

I KNOW WE HAD A COUPLE LEAKS A FEW YEARS BACK BUT THEY SEEMED TO HAVE SEALED THEMSELVES UP OR SOMETHING. BUT WE ARE REPLACING THE ROOF NOW.. SHOULD THE ROOFER INSPECT TO SEE IF PROIR WATER DAMAGE BEFORE HE INSTALLS NEW ROOF?

Certainly makes sense to - because if there is framing or sheathing rot or such you certainly want to fix that while the roof is torn off, not cover it up with a new roof and then have structural issues down the road.


But if you do not specifically ask him to do that (which he may charge for), if his scope is a simple reroof than unless he sees damaged cheathing (the plywood or roof planking) that needs to be replaced due to waser damage, he normally would not unless he is a top-notch contractor.
