What’s Biting Me While I Work in the Yard?

after being in the yard watering my plants, I experience itching on my arms and legs. I do not see anything flying around or on me, but I end up with a terrible itch and red spots.

You would have to catch the critters to identify one - assuming it is not plant allergies (probably not likely on arms if just standing watering), could be fleas, meat eating gnats, flies, mosquitos, chiggers, ticks (though those you would normally ses at least some hanging on), flies, no-seeums, even small spiders or mites, ,etc - if you stand around in same area and look carefully you should see them (presumably flying unless your arms were brushing under vegetation). My guess would be likely (especially if not concentrated on lower legs/ankles or waistband/socktop area, fleas or no-seeums or similar small swarming flying critters.

If a plant allergy or sensitivity presumably you could figure out what plants your legs and arms made contact with (and any areas NOT affected which might have contacted plants, to narrow the suspect list).

If serious, you can get your yard sprayed for them by a Pest Control company - treatment commonly last a month or so.
