What should I do? Replace Evaporator Coil or whole Unit?

Had Air Tron and American Air tell me there was a leak in Evaporator coil. Trying to decide if I should replace whole unit. The present unit is a Goodman 2 1/2 ton and installed with new home by Centex 2008. One is suggesting a new Carrier unit 2.5 stystem 15 seer at $7897 and the other Trane 2.5 15 seer at $6300. I have been reading about R22 which this needs. My electricity bills have gone up by approx. $50 a month. Don't know if I should replace coil quoted price $1500 or new unit. Any suggestions out there?
