What should I pay to fix a 38 ft mobile home, shingle over ridge cap?

The park model mobile home has a shingle roof and is 12 ft. wide x 38' ft. long, single story. What should I expect to pay for material and labor to replace the Shingle Over Ridge Cap and two rows of new shingles on either side of the cap?

Sounds like about 2 foot wide strip 38-40 feet long, so a bit more than 1 square of coverage. I would expect something on the order of $250-400 by a Handyman if you have one you trust to do roofing, or more likely about $500 by a Roofing contractor.

(I said 2' wide because normal exposure is 5 inches, and shingles would start at the peak UNDER the ridge cap, so that would provide roughly 1/2 to 1 shingle row exposure below the edge of the ridge cap. If you meant 2 rows EXPOSED below the ridge cap PLUS the hidden row or so in under, then you would be looking at about 3 foot width or 50% more coverage so more like $400-500 handyman or $600-700 by roofer probably. These costs assume normal shingles, not ultra pricey ones, and accepting currently readily available shingle color, not going to great lengths to try to find an exact match.

You said "Shingle Over Ridge Cap" - I interpreted that as ridge shingle-over. If you instead meant replace a ridge VENT and the shingles over and adjacent to it (though vent would be a rare replacement unless torn off by wind or the one you have is cheap and ineffective so you want a better one), then adding in replacement of the ridge vent to the above would likely add from $150-300 if done as part of the same job, depending on quality of ridge vent chosen, ASSUMING the slot for the venting is already cut in the roof.

You can find some previous questions with answers about ridge vent brands and costs in the Home > Roofing link under Browse Projects, at lower left.

Roofing would of course be the Search the List category to find well-rated and reviewed contractors to give you bids on this - be sure they bring their shingle sample pack with them for you to pick the color that best matches or complements your roof, because with manufacturers changing colors every year or two an "exact" match is highly unlikely - unless the mobile home manufacturer can provide replacement shingles (albeir with pretty high shipping cost).
