What about installing Hardie board on top of old asbestos siding?

We are considering removing our T-111 siding which has an underlay of asbestos siding. Would that also need to be removed before applying Hardie board?

As a siding contractor I would NOT recommend removing your T-111. I recommend placing the Hardie siding directly over it. If you remove the T-111 and disturb the asbestos, you will have to have it abated which will cost thousands of dollars. T-111 is one of the easiest prodeuct to side directly over. Below are photos of a recent job we did siding over the T-11.
