What's the reasonable price for replacing water expansion tank and T/P Valve and installing PRV Valve?

I recently bought a house and experienced a water leak from water heating boiler. I called a plumber on sticker attached to boiler. They came and checked the boiler. He told me there was no problem in boiler, but the sudden high pressure caused water leak from boiler. He told me water expansion tank was defected. Also he told me to replace T/P Valve and install PRV Valve. He charged $180 for a diagnosis. Then he gave me the estimate of the above jobs - $975 before tax. Is that a reasonable cost? I called another plubmer. He said he could not give me the estimate but he also would charge $160 for a diagnosis even though I told him I knew the problem. Should I sepnd $1000?

For that work (assuming you mean for a boiler or hot water heater, NOT a pressure equilization and surge absorption tank for a well or private water system pump) - provided there are not nasty access issues, yeah sounds high unless in most expensive parts of a very few very high cost urban areas - NYC, Boston, NY suburb areas of CT, SFO, Beverly Hills, etc. Below are a number of prior responses to this and related questions FYI - note some involve a Pressure Reducing Valve AND an expansion tank so obviously those costs for both would be somewhat higher, but enough there to give you a good handle on likely costs/ T/P valve install/replace at same time only another $25 probably - about a 2 minute job while doing the rest.
