Question DetailsAsked on 9/21/2011

can you recommend a way to remove water stains from hardwood floors beside taking out the flooring planks? Is there a way to lighten stain

I had a rag left on a floor that was wet and there is now a dark stain on the floor. I would like to lighten up the floor color and re-poly the area. I was wondering if bleaching would work?

If you sand off the finish in the affected area and expose the bare wood, a mild bleach solution might remove the stain. You might also want to try a diluted deck cleaning product that contains oxylic acid. If the stain isn't too deep, extra sanding might be enough too.
