how can i use copper sulfate to kill a mature tree

a tree is growing wildly and encapsulating my fence.. what chemical can I use to kill the tree

Pour copper sulfate into about 1/2" holes drilled down into the tree around the perimeter will kill it - as will drilling 1/4" holes and pouring in the kill-all Roundup. But then when it dies you still have to take it down, so why not just take it down right now and not have a half-dead tree in your yard for who knows how long before it totally dies (can be several months).
