Question DetailsAsked on 10/2/2017

how much it cost to remove a HVAC unit?

I want to remove the HVAC unit from a mobile home . the thing is old and I just rather buy small unit .
But it seems to be a job for a professional in the field. So I just want to know an estimate of how much will it cost to remove it. I am concern about the 220 v cable (i think).

Personally if abandoning it I would just call an electrician, for probably about $75-150 in most areas, to disconnect the wiring at the panel, and abandon the unit in place - maybe buying a cover for it if unsightly, or planting shrubs around it to conceal it.

Otherwise, to legally remove it the power needs to be disconnected at the breaker panel (which some Heating and A/C contractors will do as part of the job, some will say get an electrician to do that at cost above), then probably about $100-200 to remove and dispose of the refrigerant gas, then probably about another $200-300 or so to tear out the unit and evaporator coil and dispose of it (leaving any tubing in the walls which does not come out easy) and patching tubing holes in the siding and any cover plates needed to seal the central air ducts where the evaporator came out.

This assumes this is a central air unit - not a window or through-wall unit, though that would not be a whole lot cheaper for a through-wall unit - maybe $100 or so cheaper. Window unit maybe half that total cost.. So - you get to $300-500 pretty quick on total removal for most central air A/C's.

Heating and A/C would be the Search the List category to find a contractor to do this unless just disconnecting the wiring, in which case Electrical.
