how much does it cost to remove a fireplace chimney and the firebox in a 1-story brick ranch in michigan

after removing the entire chimney, the exterior wall needs to be filled in with brick. On the inside of house filling in the whole with studs, drywall and insulation

Don't have time to find the links for you right now, but if you look in the Home > Chimey and Home > Masonry categories under Browse Projects, at lower left, you will find a number of similar question.

Because you are looking at removal, bricking, and wall construction - as well as possibly a bit of electrical outlet wiring relocation and a bit of roofing, I would suggest a General Contractor or a Masonry firm specializing in chimney removal and reconstruction - there are a few of them out there, especially in California where chimney removal is commonly cheaper than seismic retrofitting.
