On the outside unit, there should be a manufacturer's rating plate - plastic stick-on or riveted on metal, occasionally on the outside but usually inside the front slide-up cover or door, or on the sheet metal housing inside near the compressor. Has info like manufacturer name and year of manufacture, model number, serial number, type of gas it takes, commonly gas operating pressure into, and the coolling capacity. May show cooling capacity both "tons" and "BTU/hr" ratings or only in one or the other - a "ton" of cooling capacity = 12,000 BTU/hr capacity, so a 2 ton unit has 24,000 BTU/hr capacity, a 5 ton one 60,000 BTU/hr, etc.
