I am sorry to give you a non answer but only you really know the answer to this.

If you are out of the house for most of the day and the nights in your area are of a temp that allows sleeping than yes a whole house fan makes sense. If the average temp is above what you can live with while you are home than it may make more sense to rely on the AC unit. If on returning to the house you could turn on a fan and be comfortable that is the way I would go.

If it is what I think it is your attic fan should help keep the attic area from over heating but does not lessen the living area temp, It lessens the heat load the central has to deal with. My own home is a good example. For about two weeks of the season I ran the AC unit but now the night temps are in the low 60's to high 50's so the fan pulls in the night air and unless I am home durring the high heat time once I am home for the night unless I can't sleep I am fine. If you happen to be at home durring the day an attic fan may not help.

if you check the Home > HVAC link in Browse Projects, at lower left, you will also find another recent (last few days) very similar question with response(s). For some reason I can't access it right now to get the URL (probably due to nighttime update cycle at AL), but it was posted in the past week or less.
