You don't say WHY you want to be replacing the ducts - unless eaten out seriously by rodents, some of the 70's-90's plastic ones that disintegrate with time, or rusted out metal ones, ducts rarely need replacing. Maybe touching up a bit of rust or patching a tear or two, and if leaking maybe in inner seal job - but rarely replacement.

If you have flexible ducts now you probably have to go back to the same for routing reasons unless you are tearing out the drywall for another reason - but if you have a choice, rigid metal ducts have a LOT less resistance to airflow for a given size, so are more efficient. Though they do have the disadvantage of creaking and thumping at times. Rigid ones also eliminate the common problems with flexible ones of joints coming apart, and the ducts creeping and sagging and eventually getting kinked, thereby reducing airflow.

And of course use appropriate insulation if passing through unconditioned spaces, in outer walls, or passing through an area where the heating or cooling from the duct would be undesireable.

You can find some very rough ballpark cost info in previous questions about duct replacement the Home > HVAC link in Browse Projects, at lower left.

To find contractors to bid on the job, you want to Search the List in the Heating and A/C category.
