In my opinion it depends on the company. There are handyman companies where you have an employee not an owner on site. If that is the case adding a tip to the check gets funny because the check is turned in at the end of the day and you would hope the money goes to the right person. I never expect a tip as owner and it has happened, I usually state that it is no needed but will take it if pressed. It is a nice pat on the back for an employee or even the owner and might even push you up on a list if they are busy next time you might need them. I remember one customer in particular that was what I thought was going to be a difficult person to work for. First day on a kitchen remodel she went around us to wipe up water on the kitchen floor from the refrigerator the plumber disconnected and we were moving to the dinning room to set up a temporary kitchen. The floor was being ripped up the next day! She ended up being not that bad (not great) and at the end of the job she tipped my two helpers. They still talk about her and ho nice she was.

It is not expected but will be remembered. I personally would make it in cash though if it is not the owner of the business. As the owner I will tip delivery men if they go above and beyond on a customers job.
