Question DetailsAsked on 2/23/2015

what are average costs for adding square footage to your house?

We are to remodel and add-on to our home. It is currently 1981 sq ft, 2 story with full basement and attic, built in 1911. We have been told it could run as much as $25,000 to redo the whole electrical system.

Something isn't fitting together here. Can you add enough detail that we know what you are really asking and where you are located? Construction costs can vary quite a bit based on location.

The more detail you provide the better answers you will get.

Oh ... and redoing an entire electrical system usually isn't really that big a deal, not that you should want to do it unless you really need to do so. Even $5000-10000 goes a long way with electrical work and we have done a lot of it! Don't be keen on putting in lots of home runs, if it's more efficient to create a few sub panels that go back to the main and tie in new circuits to the sub panels. So what's the deal - why would you possibly want to re-do "all your electric"?
