Check Craigslist or similar local freebie ad paper or site. You can also contact Excavation contractors and ask if they have fill they need to get rid of or know of a project doing a lot of excavation which needs dumping.

Of course, if not under contract and paying for it, you will not have the protection of Bonding and possibly not insurance either - and you need to be real careful what they are delivering, especially if doing it while you are not there, so you don't get mixed junk, organics, stripping material with roots and such, or contaminated soil.

Also that you don't get more than you want - because truckers in that business have a tendency to overdo the dumping thing if they find out a free dumping site - so you may get not only a wide variety of material from mud to massive rocks, as well as possibly a lot more than you expected or can use.
