My opinion - if $ are not driving your decision, carrier versus almost any other brand I would say go with Carrier.

My opinionn on this:

Grandeaire is a new name to me - based on their website Grandeaire is a "store brand" made for Baker Distribution - a big southeast HVAC distribution firm. I found unverifiable web info that Grandeaire units are made by Nordyne and Carrier - and supposedly their units look a lot like a low-end brand called Heil, which is owned by the same mother company (ICP) as Carrier but not actually made by Carrier, and Heil (Not a brand I have seen for decades - not common in our area) is a brand that I have heard about the same word-of-mouth comments about as for Goodman - low-end, cheap, short life.

Personally, I go with a major OEM brand, not a store brand knockoff - especially I would look at the warranty to see how comprehensive it is. Also, you have the risk that the Baker company will go out of business or be bought out and not honor warranties for as long as you have the unit - not likely to happen with Carrier.

And looking at their product line- they make no high-SEER units at all, just minimum required SEER units, so personally I would be looking at a manufacturer that at least makes high SEER units even if you don't wantone, because to me that indicates a higher level of technical expertise.
