Sometimes, like by blow-and-go box store installers, as low as $0.50/SF - or about $5/SY. For a quality installation, usually more like $1-1.50/SF - or $9-15/SY. Plus about half again as much for tools and incidental materials charges - tack strip, tape, underlayment, etc. TYpically gets you up into the total installed price of about $25-40/SY for normal range carpet - though of course you can get cheepo for around $15020/SY, and high-end on up into the $1000/SY range - NOT including baseboards if those are redone, NOT including removal of hard-to-remove flooring like tile, and NOT including significant subfloor repair or prep.
