Question DetailsAsked on 4/12/2014

Can you control bird perching on deck railings? We have their droppings problem.

Birds seem to like our deck railings and perch on them while we are away at work. We have to clean up their droppings on the railings and deck every week. Looking for an "animal friendly" solution.

Well, guess that rules out the dog, cat, and ferret solutions.

1) remove attraction - is someone feeding them nearby, causing them to pick your railing ?

2) they don't always work, but try a scarecrow - fluttering pieces of thin metallic foil streamers (much lighter weight than kitchen aluminum foil - from party or crafts store), or metallic flashy spinners, etc that move in the slighest breeze. Also, garden gnome type resin realistic looking Cats, Owls and Hawks are known to work well for some types of birds - glue or spike to railing - google this search phrase for examples - yard owl Amazon
