Question DetailsAsked on 10/28/2011

Can your landlord shut off your water if you are still living in the home? we are moving and he is mad, We have been renting for 5 yrs.

We fell behind a month, I have two herniated disks, and im having surgery in two weeks, we made him aware that we would be a little late and it was fine, but now hes being really harassing, pounding on our door every other night. anyways he sent a letter to let us know we are going to be evicted, but we havent been to court yet or recieved an official letter, but we are already packing and put money down on another home, Today he had the water company come and remove the whole meter from the yard. We thought as renters we had rights, yes the water was paid in our rent but can he just do that? We have been excellent tenants for five years, even done alot of nice things in and outside the home. Please let us know, and if theres someone we can notify? Thank You, Respectfully

I'm so sorry to hear your story! Unfortunately, Angie's List doesn't offer legal advice or ratings and reviews on legal services. Have you checked with local government?

This is highly illigal. According to real estate law he cannot shut off water unless he has evicted you legally or your lease has been expired.
